So I have had a ton to blog about but have been sick with a sinus infection and my brain has not been getting the recommended daily amount of oxygen so I’ve been quiet. Now I’m breathing through both nostrils I’m going to post just a little manicure that I did over the holidays, a nice wintery gradient.
I learned to do gradients from http://www.prettygirlscience.com/2012/12/how-to-sponge-gradient.html and it’s pretty much changed my life. For this winter gradient I started with a base coat of OPI “Pearl of Wisdom” so the gradient colors would pop more.
Taking my old makeup sponges and making a little nail size sponge. Seriously, who even uses these sponges since beauty blenders came out?
That looks like a good size.
The gradient on the sponge.
Stipple on the gradient. Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy, don’t drag.
As you can see I’d rather clean up than tape off my cuticles.
The gradient done, I used OPI’s “Teal the cows come home” and “Blue my mind” for this look.
But wait, there’s more! This look wasn’t quite sparkly or frosty enough for me, So I had to just put a little Sparitual’s “Imagination” as a top coat.
Now there’s that shine.
I was going to originally do a recipe with this look but the recipe didn’t work out for me, so here’s a link to some http://www.ricekrispies.com/recipes/cherry-coconut-bars that I really enjoyed over the holidays! I will be posting hauls and such in the very near future but I did want to get something out there today 🙂
So Christmas is coming, and I, like everyone else am poor as anything and looking for ways to make inventive, awesome christmas present for my family.
Step 1: got two tubes of lipgloss that I don’t use, and cleaned them out, put them in a container and filed the brand name off of the tubes so I can put on another label. I used a sample of Shiro’s “Unforgettable” (lip-safe) and mixed it into the melted lip glosses then repoured them into the tubes.
Hey! That looks pretty nifty! So sparkly and pretty. One sample made two tubes at a sheerish opacity.
“Unforgettable” lipgloss that’s built up slightly
This color turned out super wearable and pretty. This project was so easy I want to do all the tinted lipglosses now!
So I have been reflecting on my huge indie makeup collection and been trying to reign myself in a little bit, so I started looking through my very first indie eyeshadow collection, Shiro’s Hobbit collection.
For me, middle earth is a very important place. My mom read the hobbit to me as a child of about 5 or 6 and from that time forward middle earth was a real place for me. I love most thing Lord of the Rings/Hobbit related, I’ve played countless games, MMO’s, read books, so when I heard there was Hobbit makeup I lost my mind. Hello Shiro, goodbye money.
So I could do yet another arm swatch post, but there’s so many of those, so here’s my attempts at making some pretty pictures of looks you can actually DO with these colors. I’m kinda new at this taking pics of my things so please be kind but i am open to constructive criticism.
I apologize for the white balance on the last photo. and my wrinkly eyelids, I honestly don’t take good eyelid pictures, I think cause of my hooded eyes. Any suggestions, feel free to throw my way.
So on my eyelid is Not Drawing Room Fashion, Lingered in Twilight in the crease and The Wandering Wizard as highlight and on brow bone. They are over Urban Decay Primer Potion and a light patting of NYX Milk to boost up that color and shine.
I have really hooded lids so I don’t line the top lid but I put a fine line of Lingered in Twilight on my lower lid so maximize my tiny visible lid space. I love doing looks with shiro (and all the other indies I’ve worked with) for the saturation of color that it offers. This is kind of a classy smokey eye that’s not too much to wear during the day.
In an effort to curb my spending on cosmetics I have checked out MakeupRehab on reddit and been connecting with other people who are teaching me to make the most of their stash.
So this month I formally am going to be doing project pan with 7 items that I will track and update once a week as to my progress, some will be done this month and some will hold over for a few months.
So here are my items.
Origins GinZing eye cream – I have been casually using this for months and it seems to last forever, but it feels so nice on. I’m going to really commit myself to using it up since I’m getting to the tail end of its shelf life. maybe 75% left.
Sally Hansen Vitasurge Strength Gel – I love this stuff, but it lasts forever. Been using it for one month already and it really does make a difference to my nails especially in this winter. 75% left
Warm Vanilla Body Lotion – A nice christmassy smell. Goes nicely with my regular perfume. Mosturize all the things! 60% left
Rocky Mountain Soap Company Vanilla Candy Cane Body Butter – I actually really love this stuff, it soaks right into the skin and is in a handy applicator and it’s great for during the day hydration. I will rebuy, i like this scent but it’s really wintery so I might just replace with Vanilla Coconut. 30% left
Rocky Mountain Soap Company Vanilla Candy Cane Lip Butter – This is actually a really hydrating but for some reasons when i bought it last year it got lost in my stash for like 10 months. I just re-discovered it and did a happy dance when I found it. Perfect for the season. 95% left
The Body Shop Oatmeal and Aloe Lip Scuff – Easily one of my most favorite products from body shop, so good for Canadian winters. I have already repurchased this product but it would be good to finish off this tube. maybe 25% left
StriVectin-TL 360 Eye Tightening Serum – This stuff is good. I have a backup of this product as well and so far I only have some fine lines under my eyes but I feel i tightening serum helps with my hooded eyes a little and gives me just the tiniest bit more lid to work with. 35% left?
So there is December’s Project Pan victims. I will check in with this once a week to hold myself accountable.
