with the upheaval in the indie makeup world lately i have decided to take a hiatus from my blog. It seems like anyone with an opinion that doesn’t change with the wind is downvoted for even participating in a destash. what once was a really nice cozy community of people with a mutual interest has become a really harsh echo chamber of who spent the most, who has the most and who is prettiest and the most ‘in’ with some brand owner. It pretty much feels like high school did to me and I didn’t play the game then, and i refuse to now. If i become friends with a brand owner i don’t want them to think i’m just doing it for the sake of some backwards popularity contest. I’m really tired emotionally and mentally from all of this and so it’s best if i just step away.

I will let my past entries stand because i do stand by my word and post my true opinon of things, but do you guys really need another arm swatch post of the murder of crows collection? i’m pretty sure there’s at least 10 of them out there. I’d recommend blogs that i read but i don’t want to be accused of trying to gain favor of people who i literally only read their blog and that’s the entire extent of our interaction. The nature of these communities is cyclical so i might be back when i find the right community to post in but until that day i will just enjoy my shiny and smelly things without spending a considerable amount of time blogging about it.

Cheers and see you on the flip side.

Notoriously Morbid Black Friday Swatches

So I was trying to be a good little sparkly addict on black friday, with my planned purchase from Smelly Yeti, but I happened across this link for Notoriously Morbid, a new company for me. They offered a blogger package which interested me because it was a few samples and a full sized for a discount provided I blog about it. I was planning on blogging about this anyway, so it seemed the ideal situation. I assure you these opinions are my own, and that I wouldn’t say that these are awesome unless I really felt that way.

The samples and full sized

The samples and full sized

And black friday’s gift with purchase

These shadows are awesome, I asked for duochromes and greens and purples. They perfectly suited my order to me and sent me some lovely shades. The samples are a good size and the full sized is really generously filled. Now let’s get into the dirty and look at the swatches, since it’s everyone’s favorite part.

Goodbye Sweetie

Goodbye Sweetie- white with a gold duochrome
This shade is lovely, it’s really light with a lovely gold sheen, it’s luminous and fairly warm leaning. I feel this would be great for a highlight or a halo eye.

Garmonbozia – golden neutral with a silver/light blue sheen
Even though this shade is on the warmer side of things it looks super wearable and lovely for every day. I love this duochrome even though it’s kinda subtle.

Stripper Zombie

Stripper Zombie – green with a gold duochrome
Holy god! I love everything about this shadow. It preforms best over glitter glue but it does really well on UDPP and it’s green with a gold duochrome. This shadow makes me think of my time Irish dancing and makes me wish I was back competing. This I want a full sized of for sure.

Autumn Flower

Autumn Flower – blackened plum with a blue duocrome.
This is such a lovely crease color, I don’t think it will come off coppery or orange like Shiro’s ‘Last Homely House’ does on me, this feels more like a true reddy purple.

Goblet of Red

Goblet of Red – red with blue duochrome
I really love this one too, this is really a true red with a blue duochrome. with layering it almost look purpley and it’s lipsafe so I’d suggest I probably need a full sized of this one too.

Christmas Apocalypse

Morbid Mistake – Christmas Apocalypse
This color is a lovely lilac grey that is super wearable and cool toned. I think this was a color that didn’t turn out as intended but I love this.

Cermet and Paesh

Cermet and Paesh – blue gunmental grey
This is such a good basic color to have, I’m really glad it was black friday’s GWP and it was worth the wait. It’s really dynamic in person.

Nobel Rage

Fill level of the full sized, really generous 🙂

Nobel Rage – black base with purple glitter
This color is beautiful, it really looks like the night sky or something, very deep and glittery and applies pretty smoothly. I am so glad this was my full sized because this is a beautiful crease color and tightlining color that I will use often.

So all in all I’m really happy with this blogger pack, as you can see they’re beautiful and have a lovely formula and a super wide range. I also ordered the Murder of Crows set but I’m going to talk about that in a separate post.

PSA: Urban Decay at Shoppers Drug Mart

So when I started this blog it was originally about a girl who had next to no money and a love of makeups. I have kind of strayed away from that original purpose and happily so, I feel really blessed to have found the indie makeup game since it is actually a lot cheaper than normal sephora makeups in most things. I know there’s some good indie eyeliners out there but I always kinda loved Urban Decay.

Ta Da! I present Urban Decay's 10 pencil set from Shoppers Drug Mart for $35!!

$35?? WTF. This is a sign from God that I have a mission this year to rock my eye game out loud. Look! LOOK! All the colors.

Swatchy Swatchy

Swatchy Swatchy

From top down we have Glitter Rock, Moonspoon, Vacancy, Faint, Gonzo, Smokeout, Mugshot, Stargazer, Voodoo, and the original Perversion. The colors! I actually was so happy about finding this at the TD Square Shoppers Drug Mart that I was literally doing a happy dance (kinda looks like the funky chicken) and I *might* have been saying “I got the eyeliners, uh huh, the eyeliners, oh yeah!” When the makeup girl looked at me and smiled and said “Yeah some of the sales are really great.” And all the sudden I was like “uh, hi.” Every makeup addict knows the happy dance.

So I haven’t become independently wealthy in the last year (sadly) so it was still $35. BAM — shoppers optimum. I been saving those points for ages and buying all my christmas stuff there and printing off all the coupons to get extra points on things pretty much the entire year and I have a lot of points. Cash in $30 worth of points, makes the UD eyeliners 50 cents each. It’s practically stealing. I’m so proud of myself. This has made my entire day. I can now go through my stash and kill a few eyeliners that have been around for a suspiciously long time.

Now to save up more points before I run out of primer since that’s what I actually went to shoppers for…

Upping my indie scent game

So this whole indie perfume thing has become a bit of a problem. Well not really a problem in the sense that I’m bothered by it but I find myself sitting idlly thinking to myself “How can I smell like ‘Not the BEES!’ all the time?” I found an old vial necklace that I’ve had since middle school (I’m not going to say how long ago that was…)

My awesome but old vial necklace. I don't even know where I got it or where I'd get another one...

My awesome but old vial necklace. I don’t even know where I got it or where I’d get another one…

So yay, vial necklace! The only problem is that the wand is literally superglued into the lid and took quite a bit of effort to dig it out of that little brass top. Then I took a fresh wand, snapped off the little knob on the vial and sanded it down so I could kinda jam it in the lid. But it seems to not close enough for perfume storage and not open enough to be a diffuser-type thing. The wood on this is beautiful though, pictures don’t really show the auburn streaks on the wood, and this is fun but it wasn’t really meeting my scent-necklace needs.

A year or more ago, I remember seeing this Dragon’s Den, which is a show where people with things they want to sell pitch to people who have money, and I remember these scent necklaces this hippie chick was selling… And this girl I met at Spinout (adult circus camp) who was super cool mentioned this thing, I need to find the thing…

My wedding ring is blue topaz, I thought this one was especially pretty and would go with nearly everything I own

I found the thing! It’s this scent necklace that acts as a diffuser but the oil doesn’t come out, just sits in there and smells good all day. The oil doesn’t leak out and is easy to put in with a little dropper.  I will update when I have a better sense of how long scents last in there, but initally it really has a nice throw, it’s not like having an open bottle of not the bees on me, but it’s noticeable. They have many many different styles and patterns, it was so hard to choose but at just under $30 for a pendant and a dropper that fits in it I had to make the hard decisions that come with a limited budget.

I know that there are similar on etsy from china, 2 for $5 or something with no neat colors or patterns, I may be on a budget but one of the reasons I like to buy indie makeup is to support the small businesses and feel like my dollar was making a difference to someone’s life and this is a case of that. The Pixie Glassworks pendants are made in Canada and really are just gorgeous. I haven’t ordered the other ones from china and I won’t because I have run a small business before and know how hard it is to make it so I like to support the original company when possible.

I am super happy with my purchase, it comes on a sturdy cord with a sliding knot in the back to adjust length. You get a nifty little card that explains how to work the pendant. I bought mine at the TD Square location of Rocky Mountain Soap Company, which was nice to see exactly what the pendant looked like before bringing it home. As I said they all are beautiful but I wanted the most beautiful one there still. I highly recommend them if you ever had that scent you just can’t get enough of.

Here is a little video of how to use your pendant, and to clean it and refresh the oils in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WgC2oUEwv4 . Most of this information is on the card that comes with the pendant and the little syringes and droppers are available at Pixie Glassworks site.

Here’s a little view of the little pamphlet that came with it. It’s really nice, printed on some heavy card stock and perfect for keeping in my jewelry box should I ever forget how to smell like something other than Not the Bees.
