Project Pan – December

In an effort to curb my spending on cosmetics I have checked out MakeupRehab on reddit and been connecting with other people who are teaching me to make the most of their stash.

So this month I formally am going to be doing project pan with 7 items that I will track and update once a week as to my progress, some will be done this month and some will hold over for a few months.IMG_0957

So here are my items.

Origins GinZing eye cream – I have been casually using this for months and it seems to last forever, but it feels so nice on. I’m going to really commit myself to using it up since I’m getting to the tail end of its shelf life. maybe 75% left.

Sally Hansen Vitasurge Strength Gel – I love this stuff, but it lasts forever. Been using it for one month already and it really does make a difference to my nails especially in this winter. 75% left

Warm Vanilla Body Lotion – A nice christmassy smell. Goes nicely with my regular perfume. Mosturize all the things! 60% left

Rocky Mountain Soap Company Vanilla Candy Cane Body Butter – I actually really love this stuff, it soaks right into the skin and is in a handy applicator and it’s great for during the day hydration. I will rebuy, i like this scent but it’s really wintery so I might just replace with Vanilla Coconut. 30% left

Rocky Mountain Soap Company Vanilla Candy Cane Lip Butter – This is actually a really hydrating but for some reasons when i bought it last year it got lost in my stash for like 10 months. I just re-discovered it and did a happy dance when I found it. Perfect for the season. 95% left

The Body Shop Oatmeal and Aloe Lip Scuff – Easily one of my most favorite products from body shop, so good for Canadian winters. I have already repurchased this product but it would be good to finish off this tube. maybe 25% left

StriVectin-TL 360 Eye Tightening Serum – This stuff is good. I have a backup of this product as well and so far I only have some fine lines under my eyes but I feel i tightening serum helps with my hooded eyes a little and gives me just the tiniest bit more lid to work with. 35% left?

So there is December’s Project Pan victims. I will check in with this once a week to hold myself accountable.

My belated birthday gift :)

Thank you so much to reddit user aikoekadan who i first got in contact with because she was offering decants of the Shiro 3spooky5me collection, which sold out in like one day and it was highly sought after. I asked her to write happy birthday on the envelope so my husband wouldn’t know i’d bought MORE eyeshadow and she said she’d send me a few things. So I got a lovely little letter from her and a bunch of samples.

I love samples… 😀

What a haul!!!

What a haul!!!

Where to start? I guess let’s do the eyeshadows since they’re soooo pretty on.

all the shadows!

All the shadows! With NYX Milk base on top, naked skin in the middle and Urban Decay Primer Potion on the bottom.

So from left to right we have Shiro spiber, Shiro zompey (both from the 5spooky3me collection), Detrivore Institution, Shiro When the Thrush Knocks, and Black Rose Minerals Kon. ooooooo shiiiny.

A closer look...

A closer look…

So let’s start with Spiber. This is a lovely blue based shadow with some light green looking glitter. I think, it’s so shiny, especially on the milk. The white base makes the colors pop wonderfully. It is almost pulling a bluey purple on the UDPP base. Oh spiber, why did you have to be so limited edition? You are beautiful.

Zompey is this cool color you can’t judge in the sample baggie at all, in the bag it looks almost brown with purple shift but then you put it on and blam, the purple comes right out. It’s more wearable for me on a daily basis than spiber since it comes off a little less sparkly.

Institution is a spring green satin, almost a kelly green. It seems to have a slight gold shift, this is really a lovely color. The gold shift is more pronounced on the UDPP  while the green is much more vibrant on the milk. I will wear this for sure.

A closer look…

When the Thrush Knocks is still a current shadow in the Shiro cataloge from the Hobbit collection. I can see why. On the site it is described as “Late afternoon sunlight: soft coppery yellow-gold with light shimmer.” I can’t say I agree with that description, and i don’t know if it’s because of my complexion or what but on me it’s a lovely rich copper with not so much gold but I don’t even care because it’s beautiful on.

Kon is my first Black Rose Minerals ever. I like the formula and the shadow seemed to have the average high quality workability I come to expect from independent makeup. It doesn’t do nearly as well on the milk base as the rest did, On the milk it looks… one dimensional? But on the UDPP it looks like a lovely gold satin, really really nice. It even shows up fairly nicely on bare skin for a super subtle gold glow. Really really pretty, it makes me want to get further into this brand.

Whew, so there is the eyeshadows. They’re so pretty, i really love the richness of color in them.

But wait, there’s more!

Intertubes in Shoop da Whoop and Rickrolled, and Pacifica natural mineral eyeliner in Gun Metal

Oh Intertubes, I found you way too late and didn’t buy enough of them before they were discontinued. If you want a really tinted lipgloss then intertubes are your friend. They have since been discontinued so getting these samples was super happy for me.

Shoop da Whoop is an slightly orange leaning pink on me while Rickrolled is more orange. I am excited to experiment with these shades since i’m working more oranges into my lip wardrobe.

The liner is pretty much what I expected it to be, it has nice smooth application and a nice subtle, wearable color for me. I will report back with how it holds up to tight lining 🙂

So happy birthday to me and thank you again aikoekadan! I have already enjoyed swatching these and I will enjoy wearing them.

*Note: all swatches were on my skin which is YSL BR20, which is a cool, pink toned light complexion.

Smelly Yeti – first purchase of indie perfumes

Hey everyone, so it’s been a while, life got very busy and things got complicated and I fell behind in posting. But today I got something that’s worth blogging about. I ordered from a newbie on the indie perfume scene called Smelly Yeti. This is my first ever indie perfume purchase, but everyone’s been talking about it so I wanted to play too.

I love how this was hand-decorated.

What is this? I love how this is hand-decorated.

This came at just the right time for me, the last week has been horrible, just shitty. I needed something that would make me smile.

Hand drawn yeti with each order. The amount of time and detail in each order is awesome.

I always carefully cut out and save the brand stickers. I swear I'm not a hoarder.

So I got a nice mix of scents with their sample pack, I ordered not the bees, unicorn collector, hey mcfly, pan galactic gargle blaster and pipsqueak, demon magnet was my free sample.

Not the bees – oh… muh… gawdddddd… this is the first scent I tried out of the batch because I love a nice sweet scent on me, and this was sweet but not too sweet. I certainly got some honeysuckle in the mix and it lasted a super long time on my skin. Will buy full sized of this.

Demon Magnet – it smells like lemongrass soap on my skin. It’s not offensive to me but my skin chemistry doesn’t bring out all the wonderfulness of this perfume. It actually works a bit better on my husband but he says he will never wear it.

Hey, McFly – This one is ‘not bad’ on me, I smell the root beer and kind of this musty, familiar scent. Hard to describe.

Unicorn Collector – This perfume just reaffirms that I really like sweet girly scents. I get the vanillla notes and tonka bean with just enough fruity citrus to make the scent complex. I really like this one.

Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster – This one I guess I had low expectations because I didn’t like the description of it on the website but once I got it on my skin it turned into this really clean citrus boozey scent. It’s not my normal jam for scents but it’s kinda the perfect scent to go play some DnD with my friends at night.

Pipsqueak – This is described as a ‘teeny’ scent but on me it’s like a candied citrus with an almost almond undertone. I quite like this one and i will consider getting the full sized of this one as well.

So at the end of the day of the 6 scents I received I am only going to be trading two. I am already planning my next haul for Black Friday. Probably a full sized “Not the bees” and another sampler pack. Going through this last one was really fun and is getting me to try scents I might not normally pick up. Smelly Yeti is an awesome company to start off with and I look forward to my next order.

PSA: Shoppers Drug Mart has Kokeshi Perfumes on super sale!!

So I was out at the doctors today and, of course Shoppers Drug Mart afterwards. As I was waiting for my medicated cream I checked out the clearance rack, as all beauties tend to do on a budget. When what do I see but Kokeshi perfume duos for $15.98. Normally priced at $49 for the duo, I couldn’t resist. There were two duos but being a good girl like I am I made myself choose only one. I got Litchee and Cheery, they are so cute to go with my other super cute perfumes.

AH-DOOR-ABLE! Really. Never mind Litchee has her head on backwards because i couldn’t wait to sample them so I could offer some first impressions about the perfumes.

Here’s the perfumes unboxed.

Out of the package. Their heads are kinda rubbery feeling, like a bobblehead. Litchee has a small blemish on her forehead I didn’t notice before buying but she’s still super cute and i might see what i can do to conceal it.

Litchee’s message is “I bring you Love”. The box describes her as “A tender and loving message, I embody Love with my tangy notes of blackcurrant and pink pepper and the delicate harmony of freesia and orange blossom.” Initially it was really strong to the nose, very floral and peppery then it mellowed out into a bit more fruity. These perfumes don’t seem to last very long 😦 But they seem great for a nice little afternoon spritz.

Cheery’s message is “I bring you Luck”. The box describes her as “A message of success and prosperity, my fragrance brings Luck with my delicate citrus notes and bouquet of fresh rose and jasmine flowers.” From the description I wasn’t expecting to like it, but while it’s really floral, it’s got a nice reaction with my body chemistry and smells floral and earthy a little

I think tomorrow I will wear Cheery when I go out to check my lotto tickets I got for Christmas from Santa. I hope she does bring some luck. 🙂

Del Sol – Nail Polish – True Love

Del Sol UV Nail Polish – in True Love

So I got given this nail polish over the holidays and it’s such a pretty snowy glittery white in the bottle I was so excited about it. But then I got it on, and I don’t know if it’s just this color or if this is all of Del Sol’s nail polishes but the formula is so super sheer. Shown is about 6 or 7 coats of polish (I lost count) but the color is super deep and pretty so I hoped it’d be worth it.

The color is a lovely warm off-white with a pearl finish to it. The glitter doesn’t really read well. In the sun it is supposed to turn a violet. I live in Canada so i don’t have much natural sunlight and didn’t get a chance to test that.

It survived sleeping, and washing the stove, and most of grocery shopping, but then a whole nail’s worth of polish just peeled off. I’ve had 24h of wear of this, and every single nail has a chip. The brush isn’t super nice or easy to work with, it’s slightly streaky and takes too many coats to cover.

Overall grade: D-
